Do not say these things to someone who is Grieving!
what not to say to someone who is grieving...
Have you ever told someone who just lost a loved one,
“Let me know how I can help”?
Although, this may sound thoughtful, but when someone is grieving, even small decisions can feel overwhelming. Instead of placing the responsibility on them, take the initiative to help in practical ways.
For example, you could:
Arrange for groceries to be delivered so they don’t have to worry about errands
Send a meal or bring food to their home
Pay for a cleaning service or help tidy up their space
Contribute financially toward funeral or memorial expenses
Take them on a quiet walk
and most importantly pray for them everyday
Small acts of kindness mean so much during seasons of grief and can go a long way.
You can watch the video where my guest Ayo Adeloye, shared the story of losing her only sister to a medical complication during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia), how that loss changed her life forever, and how she was able to process and work through her grief.
What to do when you or someone you know if grieving
If you are grieving, this episode will help you, and if you know someone who is grieving, it will help you understand how to show up for them in practical ways.
You can also download the Grief & Support Care Kit, which includes prayers for those who are grieving and practical ways to support someone through loss.
