When should you Share Your Good News?
Joyful Adenike on Refusing to Hide Seasons...
I sat down with the incredible Joyful Adenike for the latest episode of Dear Christian Girl podcast and if you don’t know Joyful, let me introduce her properly.
She’s a filmmaker, director, and producer known for creating compelling stories. She is the creative mind behind films like Summer Rain and Chemistry and she’s currently working on her newest film, Tele x Zikora. Beyond film, she’s an author, content creator, wife, mum and a woman who wears many hats beautifully.
One thing Joyful and I talked about in this episode is the way many of us were raised not to share our good news too quickly.
Many of us grew up hearing things like: “Don’t announce your pregnancy until the baby is born”, “Don’t let people know too soon”, “Don’t tell anyone about your new job until you’ve settled in”, “Don’t share the struggle while you’re still walking through it.”
And while she understands where that comes from, many of our mothers and aunties who taught us this, were speaking from a place of fear— fear of disappointment, fear of losing the good news, or even beliefs around things like the “evil eye.”
Joyful shared that she chose not to share her last pregnancy publicly, but even in keeping it private, she still experienced the heartbreaking loss of her baby at six months.
As Christians, we are always led by the Spirit of God, and when it comes to what we share and what we keep private, our decisions should be guided by the Holy Spirit, and not controlled by fear.
Episode 4 with Joyful Adenike is out now on all podcast platforms and if this is a conversation you are interested in, I’d love for you to listen to the full episode here.
With love,
