Hello Beautiful People,
Can I ask you something uncomfortable?
When last did you take time off, not for a vacation, not to attend an event, but simply to rest?
No emails, No laundry, No cooking, No doom scrolling, No ticking off to do’s, but just a day where you slow down, sleep, journal, sit with God, be still and just rest. Even if it meant taking the day unpaid.
If your stomach tightened a little reading that, that’s exactly what I want to talk about.
This week on the podcast, I sat down with Alison Lloyd to talk about rest.
We live in a world that worships “being busy.” Everyone is busy.
We keep going and going and going, that we forget to be present to enjoy the little wonders of life.
Well done, O thou busy one!
When was the last time you went to the park without your phone. When was the last time you were still to listen for the voice of God. When was the last time you slept for seven hours. When was the last time you took a walk and went outside to touch grass and enjoy the cool breeze God gave us for free.
We are always chasing the next thing: the next promotion, the next deal, the next job, the next property, the next big LinkedIn announcement.
Everyday you are hustling, hustling for money, hustling for your family, always hustling and hustling.
Here’s the hard truth: that hustle you keep chasing is slowly becoming an idol.
Achievement isn’t wrong in itself, but sometimes you need a season with no project, no goal, nothing to achieve. When work and the other things you keep pursuing consumes so much of your life that there’s no room left to rest, it has taken a place it was never meant to hold.
In Alison’s final year of high school, she needed a score of 280 to get into university. It was the most stressful year of her life, but that was the year she sensed God telling her to stop studying on Sundays and rest instead.
Everyone thought she was crazy! Who takes a full day off in the year that matters most? But she obeyed and she honoured God with her time and her body, and she rested every Sunday.
She scored 406, with three perfect marks and that obedience has shaped her life since.
Alison has chosen to let go of some achievements so she can rest, care for her family, and slow down and she has kept Sundays as her day of rest for the past 30 years!
She is content and focused on the assignment God has placed in her hands, not on hustling for the next thing.
If you are feeling burnt out, worn out, stressed and tired and you need to learn how to slow down, take some time off and just rest, this episode is for you.
In fact this episode is for everyone because we all need rest.
You can listen to the episode here and as usual I can’t wait to hear your feedback.
